A few more tips on planning for your surgery

Drink plenty of water the day before your surgery so you don’t get dehydrated.  You won’t be able to eat or drink anything after midnight, so make sure to drink plenty the day before.

Oh, that ½ gallon of milk or juice?  Get a quart size; you will be able to pick that up easily.

I cleaned my house before I went in for surgery.  Get your family or boy/girlfriends to help you. It’s really nice to have a fresh bed to climb into.  If you are lucky enough to have cleaning help, ask them to make your whole house sparkling clean.

Practice deep slow breathing – it helps you to relax.  If you are uncomfortable either mentally or physically, slow deep breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth about 10 times will calm your mind and lessen the tension in your body.  Be cautious not to breath that way for too long, you might get light headed.

OH, big one here, if you tense up, your muscles will contract and cause greater discomfort, so try to be relaxed (really – you can do it)

These ideas are just from me who’s been there.  For a TON of medical advice, there are lots of great cancer sites at www.breastcancerbuddy.com on the “For Men” page.
